2019 YEAR-END REFLECTIONS

Image
So after many months since my last post back in May, I decided to check my stats tonight. After 5 years of existence, 66 posts (this one will make 67), JenMajBeauty.com has gathered 10073 views. I was quite surprised actually, considering the many life circumstances I had to navigate through to reach that number. I didn't expect it at all. I've been inconsistent with creating new content, and not very active on my social media pages either... which makes me more grateful for anyone who stumbled upon my blog and read my content. I'm proud of all my achievements throughout my hair journey. I may post some pictures and some haircare update soon. This hair journey is everything. It taught me a lot about myself, and about plans and goals. It inspired me to take better care of my skin, my health, and other areas of my life. My hair journey was the beginning of my self-love journey. Writing is something I've always loved doing. It's my creative outl...

LESSONS I'VE LEARNED DURING MY 4 MONTHS' HIATUS

Image
So, I've stopped posting on all my social network account and my blog since that last post in January . It's not that I didn't have any content. But there were two major things that were in the way. One of them was I couldn't take quality pictures with my phone. I don't want to deal with copyright issues so I prefer taking my own pictures. But no application could make my pictures less blurry. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Pictures can make or break a post. I've recently ordered a new phone so I will be writing and taking pictures of all these products and DIYs I've been experimenting with for the past 4 months. The other thing that was standing in the way was a lot of psychological harassment, to the point where some of my properties were destroyed. That's when I started posting only one blog post per month until I eventually stopped in January. The institutions I reached out to didn't do anything. It was quite t...

WASH DAY WITH NEW PRODUCTS - featuring Creme of Nature and Cantu

Image
A few weeks ago I posted this picture on Twitter , Instagram , and Facebook . Three of these products were used for the first time. There was one particular product for which I had high expectations, but I'll share my opinions about all three of them below: CANTU SHEA BUTTER MOISTURIZING CREAM SHAMPOO.- This shampoo is great for clarifying as it contains both SLS' and Cocamidopropyl Betaine. If I would compare it to a familiar shampoo it would be ORS's Cream Aloe Shampoo, meaning I could reach out for this shampoo if I ran out of ORS'. Its creamy consistency distributes evenly throughout my hair and easily gets rid of my dandruff. But it seems to leave me with tangled hair after each use. I'm still unsure about this product but it smells really good, it's not overpowering. CREME OF NATURE ARGAN OIL INTENSIVE CONDITIONING TREATMENT.- It's a great product ! I was indeed surprised at how soft this product left my hair after deep conditioning, and i...

MY SHORTEST RELAXER DAY EVER !!!

Image
I know this post will be beneficial to a lot of people as they will find less and less time for their hair in coming weeks: holiday dinners and/or parties, vacations, church activities, you name it. I did a post about how I cut time clarifying my hair after a relaxer touch-up. But at my last relaxer touch up, I simplified the clarifying step even more. I also cut down on deep conditioning time, which means I only spent an hour and twenty minutes on my hair (yes, I counted!) from the application of the relaxer to rinsing my hair after deep conditioning. It can be less if you are quicker than I am or have shorter length hair. Here is how I did it: It didn't take long to part my hair in small sections like I usually do and apply the vaseline on my scalp and length of my hair. I started the process at 10H30 on a Sunday night. And I had to work the next day. So yes, the pressure was on! Applying and smoothing the relaxer took me the usual 16 minutes. I let it sit for another 4 min...

THE ADVANTAGES OF TAKING CARE OF YOUR OWN HAIR

Image
In my last post , I mentioned the setbacks I've dealt with since I started my hair journey in 2014. Those setbacks were related to self-relaxing because it wasn't part of the original plan. But  there are positives from self-relaxing too, and I've  had some good experience with my overall hair care. And if you had taken over your own hair care like I did, you can relate to these advantages too. FASTER HAIR GROWTH I used to use grease on my scalp before I started my hair journey, whether it was Royal Crown , Sulfur 8 or Palmer's hairdressing . Although my hair would grow thick, it wasn't growing fast. I didn't know of any other way to nourish my scalp and roots until I discovered Youtube's hair community when coconut oil seemed to resolve a lot of issues, hair-related or not! So I started experimenting with coconut and olive oil, along with some essential oils , to speed up my hair growth, as there was no petrolatum slowing down my hair growth...

SETBACKS FROM SELF-RELAXING

Image
My current relaxer (love it!) Not many hair bloggers/vloggers talk about the downs of their hair journeys when it comes to self-relaxing. I understand they need to keep a positive outlook, displaying their success only when it comes to haircare. It encourages everyone to believe in themselves and that they can do it too. But I think it's also important to inform others on what can happen (the risks) of relaxing your own hair, especially if you've never done it before. That's the reason why I decided to talk about my setbacks on today's post. I started relaxing my own hair in 2014. Keep in mind that I knew nothing about relaxing my own hair. But I've learned how to do it over time. Here are the setbacks I've had so far: SETBACK #1 That first setback happened because I used a leftover relaxer that stayed too long under the bathroom sink. Big mistake! My hair became dry and as you can guess, some of my hair fell off but only at the nape on the ri...
